Steve Vai

Saying Steve Vai is a good guitarist is like believing a tsunami to be a light drizzle, born on the 6th of June in 1960 in New York, a 14 year old Vai began taking lessons from the legendary Joe Satriani. After graduating at the Berklee College of Music, Steve Vai began a career with Frank Zappa transcribing, recording and playing with the artist himself for a number of years.

With 13 solo albums under his belt and a past of playing with Whitesnake and replacing Yngwie Malmsteen in Alcatrazz, Steve Vai has written pieces for films and games, and also staring as Jack Buttler in the hit move Crossroads, playing as the demon against Ralph Machio and recorded the guitar parts in the film along with the slide guitar guru Ry Cooder. He continues to compose and produce work within his own studio called the Mothership where many great albums of his have been made. This virtuoso guitarist continues to play and record along side his fellow tutor Satriani and guest artists such as Petrucci and Yngwie on the G3 tour every so often, Steve Vai will continue to push the boundaries of the guitar and raising the level, maybe even earning another Grammy like the "Best Rock Instrumental Guitarist" earned in 1994 for Sofa and the many nominated for Passion and Warfare, For the love of God and Windows to the soul to name but a few.

"Besides being a guitar player, I'm a big fan of the guitar. I love that damn instrument."
